Who are you?
Ok a little about me! 44 year old Aussie living in Melbourne. After 25 years in the tech trenches, decided to focus on my
startups and consulting. Have a hands-on mentality: I genuinely just love to
fix things.
I also dabble in writing and occasionally get involved with amateur
theatre. Absolutely rabid Richmond Tigers supporter. I like to play indoor
futsal (soccer) and if the sun is shining, I want to be outside.
When you hire me, you aren't dealing with someone from a success
team or a junior dev. You get a direct line to someone who has the capability
to answer your questions and treats your problems with care and rigor.

Why should we hire you?
There is a bedrock of industry experience up my sleeve. From a technical standpoint
there's not much with the internet and tech that I haven't gotten my hands on.
My objective is to get work done at a high standard and with the forward-thinking
to deliver solutions that will work now and for the future.

moment to deliver them, then bringing in a full-stack generalist like myself can

What's your experience?
Most recently I stepped away from a Head of Infrastructure role at a start-up in St Kilda.
Over 8 years I recruited and lead a small team of DevOps folk. Together we
looked after multiple AWS accounts and implemented secure systems for receiving
colossal amounts of client data. There was an ongoing emphasis on controlling
(the rather extreme) costs, and meeting our SOC2 compliance requirements.
I've moved entire organizations into Infrastructure as Code
deployments using Terraform. Taken every component of application suites and
containerized them to ensure reliable platforms. I've created hundreds of
build, test and deploy pipelines. Setup monitoring and alerting, logging and
ancillery systems to help reduce the load on developers and team.

How does payment work?
After our initial consultation, if an agreement can be reached for
the delivery of the work, I'll create a contract which outlines the payment
parameters for your project.
If the contract is accepted and payment terms agreed to, the
work can begin.
If the work is a fixed-price agreement then a good faith payment of
10% is required before work will start. The rest of the payment is paid
upon delivery of project milestones.

Examples of past work?
The year was 1999 and whilst others were partying (like it was 1999) I
was installing Red Hat Linux on an Intel 486.
Gather the requirements. Get the code right. Optimize for scale and cost. Take everyone on that journey.
I build clean, standards-based websites (including this one). Too
many clever frameworks have aged badly.
Ten years ago, I built my first microservices architecture
for domain registrations. I've been neck-deep in AWS
ever since.
